ELEMENTARY Skin Care | Commitment to Sustainability
It can be very difficult in this current world of excess and consumerism to put high standards of environmental impact at the forefront of your business model, however at Elementary Skin Care we believe that it has to be the most important challenge for our business.
There is an overwhelming amount of skin care brands available today, many of which are 'green-washed' to make us feel better about our choices. They hide the reality of nasty chemical ingredients, excessive or totally unnecessary packaging which ultimately ends its life adding to the our landfill issues or simply supports an industry of unethical excess.
Here are some of the ways we consciously choose to make a difference:
We choose Organic first!
Technological advances and scientific development have changed our world, and not always for the better. Yes, industry can be produce faster and cheaper than ever, but that doesn't mean its always better for us or our environment.
Personally, we fully aboard the organic movement...we choose to eat and live organic wherever we can. The more we can reduce our exposure to synthetic chemicals and reduce our environmental impact the better.
It's simply not possible to make all of our skin care products 100% organic, but we do a lot of research to bring you the best ingredients at the most economically viable prices.
The truth is, every day we're learning more and more about the ingredients we choose for our skin care and it is our mission to constantly improve. For us, this often means opting for a better supply line, reformulating or even redesigning to bring you the best product we can offer.
It is always our choice to take a minimalist approach to packaging our skin care!
We don't waste money on extra boxes, unnecessary labeling or any packaging items that don't support recycling and waste reduction.
Recycling is a simple, convenient way to be more sustainable. We only use packaging that can be recycled through your local council recycling programs, which include PET plastic bottles, Aluminium and recycled Glass packaging.
Where possible, we design our packaging with removable labels and encourage everyone to clean and re purpose the packaging items.
The more items we can divert away from landfill the better!
We primarily choose to package in Recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate (rPET) plastic bottles that have already been repurposed through post-consumer waste streams. Where this is not possible, we consciously design zero-packaging skin care items or only use fully recycleable materials such as Polypropelene (PP) or Polyethylene (PE) plastics.
If we don't need it, we don't use it!
There are so many options available to us these days and it can be awfully tempting to want to use every new shiny ingredient or fancy new packaging item. The heart of our design philosophy from the very beginning is to keep things simple, and time has proven this works.
We have three criteria for choosing our supply lines;
1. All of our suppliers must operate ethically and have sustainable manufacturing practices.
2. They must be a local Australian business, supporting Australian workers and the Australian economy.
3. They must have the same eco-conscious approach to sustainability, waste reduction and ethical business practices as us.
We support organic and environmentally ethical manufacturers as a first choice!
At Elementary Skin Care we encourage everyone to adopt more sustainable practices and to consciously work towards turning sustainable concepts into more attainable objectives!
